DoubleMap Co-founder Ilya Rekhter Wins Tech Rising Star Award

Ilya Rekhter, CEO and c0-founder of DoubleMap, received the Tech Rising Star Award during TechPoint’s 16th annual Mira Awards honoring the best of tech in Indiana. Ilya co-founded transportation technologies company DoubleMap in 2011 and has since grown it to include more than 90 clients worldwide.

TCPT_Mira 2015 Badge-WinnerDoubleMap has created 34 jobs (22 in Indiana), and received TechPoint Mira Awards for Startup of the Year and Mobile Technology. Ilya has received individual recognition from the Indianapolis Business Journal in their ‘40 under 40’ list at age 25. While his business accomplishments are well-documented, it’s Illya’s lesser-known volunteer and community/global contributions that truly impressed the Mira Awards judges.

DoubleMap encourages all of its employees to get involved in the community, so Ilya lead by example through serving on the board of two local non-profit organizations and coaching youth basketball. He serves on asset development and strategy committees at TechPoint Foundation for Youth and has led marketing efforts for the Russian-American Cultural Society of Indiana, which grew 100 percent to more than 300 students in 2014. He also coaches a team of eighth graders twice a week for Carmel Dads Club basketball.

Ilya also focused on global issues through his participation in Hive and Project Ten. He was selected as one of 35 from 1500 applicants for Hive’s March 2014 class, which organized industry leaders and entrepreneurs into a network that collaborated on ways to address global issues. While at Hive, Ilya worked with the CEO of Change.org to petiton the Indian govement on womens issues including legal procedures for handling rape. Other 2014 Hive members include Stanford lecturers, Olympic Gold Medalists, and World Bank researchers from more than 46 countries.

Ilya also volunteered for Project Ten, which is a social education philanthropy based in Hyderabad, India. He traveled to India and taught classes on resume writing, interviewing techniques, and internet-based job hunting to children from broken homes. His curriculum resulted in a 18 percent increase for students applying to vocational college or ones who were searching for jobs, and continues to be taught today.

Collectively, Ilya has demonstrated his commitment to the Indiana community, while also keeping an eye towards global issues and growing his company. His dedication to these issues has resulted in a marked improvement across multiple areas throughout 2014, and he will prove to be a deserving recipient of the Rising Star award through future challenges that he will take on.
