Software-as-a-service startup Codelicious, which is transforming the way elementary and middle school educators teach students how to code, won the Tech Service of the Year award during TechPoint’s 19th annual Mira Awards gala honoring the best of tech in Indiana.

Using a SaaS-like subscription model, Codelicious builds and licenses curriculum uniquely designed to teach elementary and middle school students computer science and coding, while engaging students through their different learning styles. Codelicious saves educators time and money by enabling them to spend more time teaching and less time sourcing reliable, scalable computer science and coding curriculum.

The startup’s patent-pending technology builds the curriculum according to the educator’s specifications and uses a web-based login to provide access to a fully vetted, and constantly updated curriculum, which addresses the primary pain points educators experience with computer science curricula.

The Mira Awards judges chose Codelicious as Tech Service of the Year because the company’s unique approach is saving educators and administrators time and money, while simultaneously providing affordable access to a turnkey solution that is built to transform the computer science and coding experience that they can offer their students.

Since launching its SaaS-like subscription model in January of 2017, Codelicious has secured a significant pipeline of contracts with local schools and organizations including MSD Pike Township, Lowell Elementary (Warren Township), Carmel Clay Schools, Sycamore School, Park Tudor, The Oaks Academy, Girl Scouts of Central Indiana, and The Monon Community Center. To date, Codelicious has a zero percent attrition rate — all participants are using the service and intend to renew. In addition to a growing pipeline of individual subscribers, Codelicious is also in discussions with large channel partners to distribute its courses to tens of thousands of schools.

The judges were impressed by the impact Codelicious achieved in its very first year of operation, introducing more than 1,500 elementary and middle school children the exciting and collaborative world of computer science and coding. Because the company and its products and services were built to scale quickly, Codelicious is well positioned to lead the next wave of computer science curricula and have a significant impact on the future tech workforce in Indiana and nationwide.
