WGU Indiana announces scholarships for women in tech
Talent is one of the most important ingredients of our tech ecosystem. Filling that talent pipeline requires multiple approaches, such as skilling up new grads and career changes or helping professionals level up to leadership and management roles. The opportunities to make those career jumps, however, is often limited by one’s educational background.
WGU Indiana takes an innovative approach to higher education, much like a tech startup, putting students and what they want to accomplish at the center of everything they do. That’s why WGU Indiana has announced 15 new scholarships for women in any of its bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in the College of Information Technology, totaling up to $30,000.
Each of the Women in Technology Scholarships offered through WGU Indiana is valued at up to $2,000-$500 per six-month term for up to four terms. To be eligible for one of these scholarships, female applicants must be officially admitted to WGU, complete the scholarship application and be interviewed by a WGU scholarship counselor. While WGU Indiana will award up to 15 scholarships, recipients will be selected based on their academic records, financial needs and readiness for online study at WGU, among other considerations. Applications are now being accepted for these scholarships through December 31.
“To keep up with the fast-paced and changing world of technology, individuals must continuously seek out opportunities to learn and grow their skills. This generous scholarship awarded by WGU Indiana can change the lives of women who see a financial barrier to a tech-skilled education,” said Mike Langellier, president and CEO of TechPoint. “Tech skills are and will continue to be critical for the workforce of today and tomorrow, and we need more women to skill-up into those careers. Kudos to WGU Indiana for leaning in and proactively meeting the need.”
WGU Indiana’s online, competency-based programs allow working professionals to study and learn on their own schedules and advance as soon as they demonstrate mastery of course materials. When paired with the university’s affordable tuition of about $6,000 per year, WGU’s flexible learning model makes it possible for working adults to earn an accredited degree and recognized industry certifications. We recently profiled the new cybersecurity and information assurance degree program offered by WGU Indiana, which is an emerging field with an incredible need for skilled talent.
