Transit software provider DoubleMap broke into the famed Inc. 500 “Fastest Growing Companies in America” list in 2016, coming in at 93rd overall, and the tech scale-up remained among the top 10 fastest growing tech companies in Indiana on the list this year. The Indianapolis Business Journal included DoubleMap on its IBJ Fast25 “Fastest Growing Private Companies” in the Indianapolis area list in 2016 and 2017.

According to DoubleMap Co-founder and CEO Ilya Rekhter, the Inc. 500/5000 and IBJ lists are watershed events that help to validate that their company is doing something right.

It was in 2014, at the TechPoint Mira Awards that Ilya first experienced that feeling of affirmation. “It’s a proud moment when all of the teamwork and man-hours comes to fruition. It is moments such as hearing your company name called out at the Mira Awards that pushes us to stay on top of our game,” Ilya said. “No doubt it is worth it!”

DoubleMap is one of only four companies that have won four or more Mira Awards over the program’s 18-year history. Those remarkable honorees include ExactTarget (now Salesforce), Interactive Intelligence (now Genesys), Ontario Systems, and DoubleMap, which won the following awards:

Since winning a Mira award, how has your company grown/transformed?

ILYA: Since winning our most recent award our staff has grown a tremendous amount, adding seven full-time employees to our small team. We feel that we now have a foothold in Indianapolis as a growing tech company, and we have been able to get qualified individuals to apply for our open positions with relative ease. On-boarding new members to our team has been the area where we have experienced largest growth since receiving the reward.

Winning awards undoubtedly handed us the credentials to go after hiring more top individuals in the area — individuals who have great character and skill. Winning Mira Awards has allowed DoubleMap to consistently gain recognition from our peers and receive positive press coverage in each year we have won an award (2014, 2015, 2017). We like to think that our attitude, effort, and expectation of high standards helps us continue to grow and be a contender for these awards.”

Did you or your company experience some immediate gains after winning a Mira Award?

ILYA: One of the major gains that DoubleMap has experienced after receiving our most recent Mira Award as Scale-up Company of the Year has come in the sales department. It has been an advantage to our team to be able to reference the award and use it as leverage to win larger deals. In the past, it was easier for agencies to overlook DoubleMap because we were largely considered a startup. Now that we have won the Scale-up award, we feel like we have officially graduated from being a startup and can now be more competitive on a larger scale and scope.

How did you share the news of your win after the Mira Awards?

Some people make shirts with the winner badge, add a new landing page to their website, or have a champaign toast with their entire company.

ILYA: We spread the news across our social media platforms, and shared it with friends and family. It means a lot to us. DoubleMap enjoys the thought that we are helping push forward the tech culture in Indianapolis. Winning these awards has encouraged us to continue to our mission.

What’s next for your company? How are things going?

ILYA: The goal is always to keep growing, finding new ways to win bids and gain business. We are exploring all options, and are excited to see where our future lies. Things are going well for us, and what is next will come from the individuals on our team. We control our own destiny at this point.
