Rapidly growing, tech-enabled online retailer SupplyKick won the Tech Scale-up of the Year award for companies with $5 million to $20 million worth of revenue during TechPoint’s 19th annual Mira Awards gala honoring the best of tech in Indiana.
SupplyKick is a well-capitalized growth-stage marketplace retailer representing over 1,000 products and nearly 100 brands on Amazon, Walmart.com, eBay, and other marketplaces. Founded in 2013, the company was named #4 on the Indianapolis Business Journal’s 2017 Fast 25 and landed at #399 on the 2017 Inc 500 list of fastest-growing private companies in America.
As online retail rapidly evolves, SupplyKick has developed a successful, tech-enabled and analytics-driven approach to buying, selling, and representing third-party products on marketplaces like Amazon, eBay, and Walmart.com. Despite operating in a notoriously high-risk market, the fast-growing, self-funded company nearly doubled its workforce and more than doubled its revenue in 2017, which it’s done each year for the past three years.
Even more impressive than sustaining such growth without outside equity financing is the fact that the company has successfully completed 11 of 12 quarters profitably after all expenses, while simultaneously investing heavily in a growing team and technology needs.
The Mira Award judges believe SupplyKick is a key disruptor on the right side of the tectonic shifts taking place in retail and — if the company is correct in its predictions and remains agile — could be on track to become a billion dollar business by the time it reaches its tenth anniversary (or sooner).
SupplyKick has the potential to be a major influencer on the future of the retail industry, and the judges think the insights and technologies the scale-up is applying will continue to add value to the market and create hundreds of new high-wage tech jobs. The judges were also impressed with SupplyKick’s demonstrated dedication to diversity and inclusion — half of the company’s employees are female in a traditionally male-dominated industry.
TechPoint, the growth initiative for Indiana’s tech ecosystem, honored the successes and innovation of Indiana companies, entrepreneurs, educators, and other leaders at The JW Marriott Indianapolis during the 19th annual Mira Awards gala presented by Angie’s List, Infosys, and Salesforce.
A total of 15 award winners and two honorable mentions were chosen from the 100+ outstanding companies, organizations, and individuals who were selected as nominees this year out of the 205 applications received highlighting achievements during the 2017 calendar year.
Fifty-two independent, volunteer judges spent more than 850 total hours reviewing and ranking applications, interviewing nominees, and selecting this year’s winners. Judges included company founders, CEOs and presidents; CTOs, CIOs and software developers; professors and chancellors from Indiana universities; design, human resources and sales professionals, and a variety of other subject matter experts.
The Mira Awards are named after the first of the brilliant variable stars to be discovered – the Mira Star. It is also the Latin root meaning “worthy of admiration, wonderful, marvelous.” The awards represent the best of tech in Indiana each year.
