KSM Consulting (KSMC) is an 11-year old tech, data, and management consulting firm developing cutting edge solutions for some of the nation’s most complex challenges. The company serves the public sector—federal, state, and local entities—private companies, and not-for-profits helping them fulfill their missions, meet their goals, and address their most complex challenges. Led by a mission to help clients, coworkers, and communities thrive, KSMC develops solutions rooted in empathy, driven by cutting-edge technology, and working toward lasting impact.

In 2019, the company expanded its team and offerings, including hiring and building a 22-person in-house app dev team. KSMC employs 200 people who serve over 350 clients, providing technical services such as data science, app dev, and IT consulting to clients across industries and sizes. They also provide strategic consulting services to technology and technology-enabled companies. However, most of KSMC’s solutions incorporate elements of all of available services—data, IT, app dev, and management consulting—resulting in solutions that are technically sound, data-enabled, and implemented for long-term transformation and success.

In 2019, some of the solutions KSMC developed for tech and tech-enabled organizations included:

  • A data-enabled application to identify supply chain risk
  • A custom-developed middleware to sync orders, customers, and over 500,000 products from four disparate systems
  • A model to identify the optimal level of scholarship to result in the greatest level of college starts
  • A dashboard to share optimal economic development incentives and the resultant effect on the economy.
  • A cloud platform to automatically deploy over 250 mobile devices reducing configuration time and easing device switching.

The Mira Awards judges were particularly struck by a complex and far-reaching public sector project with national security implications that KSMC worked on with Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division. By incorporating numerous cutting-edge analytical capabilities, KSMC was able to help Crane achieve a 40% reduction in a critical supply chain risk-assessment process. That 40% reduction is the difference between a risk assessment taking more than three days to complete or a day and a half.

The project was conceived, executed and implemented in a remarkably short four-month period in 2019. The complexity of the project is evidenced by a list of some of its components, including cloud-native architecture, probabilistic record linkage, machine learning techniques, a robust risk rules engine, multi-level network mapping, automated data ingestion and analysis of over 20 structured and unstructured datasets, and all with an easy-to-use web-based user interface that is scalable, flexible, transferrable, and secure.

By executing to it’s values of empathy, fearless problem solving, client focus, and deep expertise, the KSMC team develops solutions that are long-lasting and impactful. The team is working to change the way that consulting is executed and achieve their mission of helping clients, coworkers, and communities thrive.
