As Indiana’s tech community continues to grow and mature, it’s getting harder and harder to narrow down the winners for our annual Tech 25 Awards program. Clearly there is a wealth of tech talent in the Hoosier state, and they are making incredible moves. Join us in celebrating the Tech 25 class of 2020 through this profile series and learn a bit more about each winner.
In addition to being a software developer herself, Gwendolyn is a published author of Learn to Code. Get a Job.: The ultimate guide to learning and getting hired as a developer. Gwen works tirelessly to help others find their way in tech by organizing meetups and hackathons. She even built an application to help recently released inmates reintegrate into society and connect to available resources.
What led you to get into tech and this occupation? What was your first job in tech?
I love the freedom and creative outlet that software development provides for me. I felt very unfulfilled in my previous career and building apps has long been a goal of mine. My first job in tech was building websites for a local company.
When you think of a day in your life, what are the main work activities you do or responsibilities you have?
As a software consultant, I work with a few different companies on their applications. I’m also a content creator so I try to balance my time between clients and making tutorials.
Which resources, people, books, websites, etc. would you recommend to those who want to learn more or advance their skills in this occupation?
I recommend checking out my YouTube channel, Faraday Academy, and my Twitch channel. I post coding tutorials and do coding and Q&A live streams several times per week. Other than that, I highly recommend checking out freeCodeCamp and Coder Newbie communities and websites.
