Headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, GE Appliances is a leading manufacturer of major home appliances, from cooking and laundry products, to refrigerators, dishwashers and water filtration systems. As a pioneer in WiFi-connected appliance technology, its connected suite of appliances allows people and families the ability to monitor and maintain their home from near or far using their voice or a mobile device.

John Ouseph, Technology Senior Executive for the Smart Home Solutions group will describe the development and ongoing evolution of its connected platform along with its ability to seamlessly integrate their connected appliances with partners, including Amazon Alexa, the Google Assistant, Apple HomeKit, Amazon Dash Replenishment, Nest Labs, Drop, IFTTT, SideChef, Hestan Cue, and Innit. Haitian Hu, Technical Expert of Big Data System Reliability & Analytics will share how data analytics is playing an increasingly important role improving product maintenance and service, delivering new capabilities to existing products in the home, and providing data-centered insights for future product development.

About John Ouseph

John is responsible for setting the technology and innovation strategy for GE Appliances' (IoT) smart home initiative. In his 20-year GE career, he progressed through various cross-functional operating roles in GE, including roles at the Global Research Center. John assumed the technical leadership position for the Smart Home Solutions group in November of 2011. John's newest project includes working with the global Haier team to establish the company's overall technical vision and global product roadmaps for connected and smart appliances.

About Haitian Hu

Haitian is responsible for driving the application and setting the reliability strategy for GE Appliances' IoT-based Big Data System. Haitian has over 25 years of experience in data analytics, computing algorithms and design for reliability. In his 18-year industrial career, he designed and implemented distributed data acquisition and control systems for multiple manufacturing plants. Haitian assumed the technical expert position for the Smart Home Solutions group in September 2011. His newest projects include implementing the company's remote interactive diagnostic system for all connected and smart appliances.

The IU School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI is pleased to host the Industry Lecture Series, which explores the impact of human-centered design on the rapid evolution of the Internet of Things. Just as human-centered design and design thinking methodologies are transforming traditional businesses and business models, these same processes are accelerating the deployment of innovative new IoT ecosystems across a broad spectrum of industry verticals. This lecture series will feature design leaders from major national corporations describing how human-centered design practices are integral to the development of forward-thinking IoT business strategies. All lectures are open to the IUPUI campus and the community.
