In this talk, Ryan Larcom, VP, Customer & Digital Strategy at Allegion, will share an overview of his career through the vision of “helping companies design delightful experiences for customers”. He will present lessons learned on how to apply innovation no matter your role, and how Allegion drives innovation in the Internet of Things (IoT) and in the access and security space.
Ryan Larcom Bio
Ryan Larcom loves bringing ideas into reality. In his current role as VP, Customer & Digital Strategy at Allegion, Ryan combines his passion for human-centric design with his strategic skills to lead the company to a more holistic understanding of customers, ultimately aligning people, products, and operations to delight customers.
Ryan began his career as an engineer and industrial designer at Honda and Cummins, where he developed concept designs into Acura’s line of luxury vehicles and Cummins’ Hedgehog, the largest high-speed diesel engine in the world. Later, as a Cummins business strategist, he developed executives’ business aspirations into growth strategies and partnerships for each business unit of the Fortune 120 company. While in tech startups and venture capital, Ryan helped High Alpha pioneer the venture studio model while partnering with entrepreneurs and corporations to launch and invest in over 12 new startups in 3 years.
Originally from Connecticut, Ryan is a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology with an M.Eng and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design, where he was an Outstanding Undergraduate Scholar. Ryan lives in Indianapolis with his wife and two children.

The IU School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI is pleased to host the Industry Lecture Series, which explores the impact of human-centered design on the rapid evolution of the Internet of Things. Just as human-centered design and design thinking methodologies are transforming traditional businesses and business models, these same processes are accelerating the deployment of innovative new IoT ecosystems across a broad spectrum of industry verticals. This lecture series will feature design leaders from major national corporations describing how human-centered design practices are integral to the development of forward-thinking IoT business strategies. All lectures are open to the IUPUI campus and the community.
