Event Description

Topic: How do you avoid "Bad Blood" with investors when introducing vaporware and financial projections?

SSH’s first ever book club – Join us for a discussion on the book Bad Blood by John Carreyrou. If you are an entrepreneur or investor and haven’t read this story on Theranos and founder Elizabeth Holmes, it is a must-read for everything you need to know about vaporware and extreme financial projections.

Recently I was at a board dinner for a startup and the table couldn’t stop talking about the book Bad Blood. The true story is about the breathtaking rise and shocking collapse of Theranos, the one-time multibillion-dollar biotech startup founded by Elizabeth Holmes — now the subject of the HBO documentary The Inventor — by the prize-winning journalist who first broke the story and pursued it to the end.

In this Startup Study Hall, we will discuss a case study using Bad Blood to explore how founders should pitch ideas for software and financial projects that are both ethical and achievable. Attendees will learn the benchmarks that investors use to determine if the vaporware is viable and the financial projections are reasonable.
