Strategic Communications Leader - Carmel, Indiana (Hybrid)
The Strategic Communications Leader is responsible for managing a variety of communication and marketing activities focused on promoting and progressing the Allegion business strategy and innovation priorities. The work is highly collaborative and is part of the Global Corporate Communications group.
The role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fluid, fast-paced environment, where you are encouraged to push the envelope of creativity and work in a collaborative, team-based model. The leader proactively identifies opportunities and advocates for them, counsels senior executives and business teams and delivers aggressive communication goals and timelines. They are adept at navigating ambiguity, making high-level strategies and concepts tangible, and working with a broad range of business leaders, subject matter experts and creative talent.
The daily work balances multiple long-term and short-term priorities across a variety of individual, team and client initiatives. It is a hands-on role and comprised of strategic planning, facilitation and project management; translating conceptual ideas into use cases, storyboards, key visuals; creating activation tactics, marketing and digital collateral, videos and training materials; and supporting corporate thought leaders and content creators.
What You Will Do:
Lead major strategic communication initiatives and a key point of contact for thought leaders and subject matter experts, mergers and acquisition (M&A) teams and strategy development teams.
Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) and corporate communications lead for topics related to Allegion business strategy communications.
Manage the global town halls related to business updates and major strategic topics. Work with the vice president on communication objectives and the agenda for these events, develop the run of show, work on message alignment, content and speaker preparation, guide the production and tech team and organize follow-up activities.
Lead communications planning for acquisitions with a focus on the announcement stage(s). Serve as the key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, the deal team, creative resources and functional SMEs for the communications workstreams. Responsible for the master communication documents, content package and timeline, working across a wide array of stakeholders and contributors to identify audience-specific needs and link SME activities to the overall plan.
Support Allegion Ventures’ thought leadership and marketing agenda. Work with the vice president to set marketing objectives, develop a content and promotional plan, establish relationships with portfolio companies and internal contributors, and serve as the key point of contact for promotional and marketing opportunities.
Responsible for key corporate assets, e.g., About Allegion and strategy slides, corporate image and thought leader videos, innovation engine infographics, and updates to sections of the Intranet and website.
Pursue awards and other recognition for key initiatives, promotional and activation campaigns, as appropriate.
Develop and roll out training, style guide and activation materials to aid effective understanding and adoption of the Allegion business strategy.
Implement corporate brand guidelines and style guides.
Provide oral presentations and represent Allegion at conferences, in community and industry forums and through stakeholder interactions. These events may occur outside normal office hours, and some will require travel.
Serve as the back-up contact, as needed, for other Global Corporate Communication leaders including support for executive communications, employee communications, crisis response, digital marketing and content management services.
The primary work location is the Carmel, Indiana office and offers flexibility on days in the office. Overnight travel is required (estimated 10-15% annually) and international travel may occur.
What You Need to Succeed:
Requires a minimum of 7 years’ work experience in a role that includes direct responsibility for developing thought leadership communications, leading high-profile initiatives and delivering significant impact.
Requires a bachelor’s degree in communications or marketing disciplines or equivalent work experience, and excellent writing, editing and verbal communications skills.
Demonstrates the ability to adapt to change, simplify complexity, set and achieve ambitious goals, collaborate to achieve results and manage multiple priorities.
Adept at working directly with senior executives, providing strategic guidance to peers and developing partnerships with influencers and business teams.
Experience leading strategic communications initiatives and project teams and working with internal creative resources or external agencies.
Proficient in applying and adapting visual design, brand guidelines and messaging hierarchy systems to structure messages and boost awareness and recall.
Experience working on a corporate or product brand in a marketing or sales role and that spans a broad range of audiences and vertical markets is highly beneficial.
Experience developing creative briefs and providing direction to videography teams and graphic designers, managing broadcast events and working with innovative communication techniques is highly beneficial.
Experience in a publicly traded B2B company and a role that spans a wide variety of stakeholders and global audiences is highly beneficial.
Experience developing content for employee communications and digital marketing; working on venture or innovation teams; working with public relations and market research professionals; or working in a communications agency is beneficial but not required.
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite is required, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Experience with basic graphic design tools is beneficial but not required.
