Job Description
Butler University’s Information Technology department is currently seeking a passionate and skilled Audiovisual Specialist who is eager to join a team which values education, collaboration, innovation, and fun. The AV Specialist is a hands-on role which will be directly involved in all aspects of the management of AV-enabled spaces on Butler's campus. The AV Specialist will have a unique opportunity to participate in the full life-cycle of Butler's mediated systems from design, procurement, and installation through to support, training, and documentation.
Butler IT’s Audiovisual team currently oversees over 300 AV-mediated systems which span all functions of the university including academics, administration, arts, and athletics. Qualified candidates should be self-starters who are comfortable troubleshooting/supporting systems with little prior experience. Additionally, interested applicants should be driven, detail-oriented, curious, flexible, collaborative, and team-oriented.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide just-in-time support to mediated spaces (classrooms, labs, conference spaces, etc.)
Troubleshooting and facilitation of break/fix activities for mediated spaces
Assist with the implementation/installation of new mediated systems or updates/upgrades to existing systems (including system design, hardware installation, programming, and running/terminating various cable types as needed)
Analyze system/business processes to identify inefficiencies and develop strategies for improvement
Provide ad-hoc end-user training for AV systems
Build and maintain system documentation and support articles for a variety of audiences
Provide world-class service and support for University students, faculty, staff, and guests
Create, update and manage internal procedural documentation in knowledge base as necessary for all job functions
Position requirements:
1-2 years of Audiovisual installation and support experience
General experience with Windows and Macintosh desktop operating systems
Thorough understanding of AV signal pathways and a serious interest in control/programming of AV systems
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
Proven customer service and telephone skills
Self-starter, capable of making independent decisions
Desire to be a continuous learner and sharpen skills when given the opportunity
Ability to analyze complex problems and solve issues with little or no prior experience
Ability and desire to thrive in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with running and terminating Ethernet, audio and control cabling
Experience with audiovisual programming, including Crestron systems
Experience managing small to medium-sized projects
Project management/budgeting experience
Experience in a higher education and/or a large/complex IT organization
College degree; degree in a technical field (Computer Science, MIS) is a plus
