This position is responsible for a broad variety of technical design, administration, and support for Delta’s infrastructure systems in a hybrid environment; with emphasis on cloud technologies in order improve business value and efficiency. Provides technical expertise and direct support for the planning, coordination, implementation, maintenance, and security of cloud systems. Ensures accurate capacity planning, budget alignment, and availability monitoring of cloud systems for operational stability, security, and change management. Participates in the development and implementation of technical standards, policies, and procedures. Works independently or as a member of interdisciplinary teams on complex projects. Works as a liaison with contractors and vendors as needed. Provides technical consultation, guidance, and support as needed to operational and technical staff.
As a Cloud Systems Engineer you will be responsible for crafting, developing, maintaining, and securing the cloud systems in a hybrid environment covering AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, in on-premises, private hosted, and cloud environments. The Cloud Systems Engineer works closely with professional technical staff in the IT management team in planning, monitoring, and evaluating the performance of cloud systems and making recommendations for improvements as we look to focus on delivering cloud-based solutions.
The key responsibilities you will have in the role include:
Hybrid cloud systems management and administration; including, but not limited to configuring and installing of new services, servers, applications, monitoring, system reporting, analysis, security and auditing, preventative maintenance, tuning and performance optimization, cloud budget management, OS and application patching, capacity planning and upgrades
Configure and fine tune cloud infrastructure systems
Install and configure virtual cloud instances
Support cloud services and servers including configurations, security hardening, patching, and troubleshooting
Develop scripts for automating client/server functions
Monitor automated systems recovery solutions
Integrate systems across multiple cloud environment (On-Prem, AWS, Azure, GCP, etc) to ensure monitoring, security, patching, and configuration of systems follows standard methodologies
Implement, manage, and support existing infrastructure platforms including the deployment of new virtual servers, troubleshooting virtual server problems, and maintaining the Virtual environments including supporting physical server hardware and SAN management.
Budget and plan lifecycle management of infrastructure systems
Ensure data retention and recoverability is aligned to business requirements for recovery time objectives and recovery point objectives. Ensure backups are monitored and supported.
Utilize automation and scripting for repeatable Infrastructure as a Code practices to build out new solutions and support existing systems.
Utilize scripting languages to help bridge integrations between systems and processes
Follow established ITIL practices (Change, Incident, Request, etc.)
On call as systems issues could occur 24 x 7 and after-hours work
Planning, monitoring, and evaluating the performance of cloud systems and making recommendations for improvements
Manage relationships/work with vendors and consultants on projects and technical support issues.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent work experience required.
5+ years of related systems experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrable experience managing an environment with a diverse environment (Linux, Windows, AIX/UNIX)
Demonstrate understanding of foundational network technologies (TCP/UDP, DNS, IPv4, IPv6, Multicast, Fiber Channel)
Experience managing a VMware Environment
Experience with AWS and/or Azure
Experience in Perl, Python, Shell Scripting, PowerShell
Experience working with standard data exchange formats (XML, JSON, YAML)
Knowledge of Networking, DNS, Firewall, Linux OS Management, as well as Windows Server OS Management, and Microsoft Active Directory
Strong analytical, problem-solving, organization and communication skills
Experience supporting RedHat, SLES, and Windows across various infrastructure platforms
Experience working with Automation Engines such as Ansible, Jenkins, Puppet, SaltStack, or others
Knowledge of ITIL practices
