We are hiring an early-career investment team member in Indianapolis. We are flexible across levels of experience from Analyst (less than three years’ prior relevant experience) to Associate (3–5 years prior relevant experience) to Senior Associate (6+ years’ prior relevant experience)
- 2–8 years of experience as a tech entrepreneur, member of a fast growing startup, venture investor, finance (banking, PE, etc) analyst or consultant
- Existing residency or deep ties to Chicago or Indianapolis
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a rigorous program with a high level of academic performance
Deal sourcing: HPVP’s analyst and associate roles are responsible for planning and execution of our firm-wide deal sourcing function. This includes methodical/quantitative sourcing methods using commercial and bespoke software as well as networking-based sourcing on the ground throughout our geographies.
Due diligence: Work closely with senior investors to plan and execute due diligence research, market analysis and interviews.
Brand building: Represent the firm well at sourcing events and in entrepreneur meetings; have positive impact on the entrepreneurs we meet with — even when we don’t invest. Investment professionals are also encouraged to blog or otherwise develop thought leadership in the community.
Analysis and reporting: Manage our quarterly reporting process for limited partners and conduct portfolio analysis to optimize the partnership’s new and follow-on investment decisions.
Over time, the successful team member will have the opportunity to develop their own investment theses, run a deal from sourcing to close and work with companies at the board level. Both roles will report to senior investment professionals in their local market.
How we work:
We respect and celebrate entrepreneurs and their ideas. We are responsive and tenacious, and we do what we say. We communicate openly and honestly about fact and emotion. We make data driven decisions. We believe that rewards should accrue to those who create value. These are our values, and we take them seriously.
For the entry-level investor, this means being quick and tenacious, honest, direct… but respectful, self-managed and able to prioritize without too much deference for authority. This is venture, so entry-level investors must also be comfortable with ambiguity, risk taking and failure… and learn from each, so we can do it better next time.
