Principal Software Engineer

2020 affected the live entertainment industry considerably. In-person concerts will return, but they’ll be complemented with virtual experiences; creating new meaningful fan/artist interactions while providing artists with new revenue streams. Seamless, innovative digital experiences not only emulate, but also enhance the magic of live music. Tailored insights generated from rich data sources will completely change the way the live music industry operates. Mandolin is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to serve as a technical leader setting the vision for a scalable technology stack and performant software architecture. An ideal candidate is comfortable taking on big challenges, moving fast with an eye on the future, and wearing multiple hats at once.

The company is remote friendly for the following states: Indiana, Tennessee, California, Illinois, Missouri, Virginia, Texas, Maryland, New York, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Nebraska, Utah, Florida, or Washington.

What You’ll Do:

Leverage a deep and broad understanding of the technology landscape to serve as a thought-leader and assist in platforms and technology selections and decision making
Write architectural documents, design specifications, and test plans for projects that span multiple teams
Design and develop reliable, performant, and scalable features and services
Demonstrate high proficiency in engineering best practices, such as fault tolerance, concurrency, reusability, extensibility, API design, database modeling, maintainability, security, scalability, testability, and overall quality
Clearly and concisely explain broad initiatives, high-level architectures, and visions to engineering leadership, product, and engineering teams
Recommend standards and best practices at the team level when they don't exist across the organization
Model engaged, active participation in all parts of the Agile process, including planning, execution, demo, and retrospectives
Support and inspire the engineering organization and mentor engineers to think with architecture and design best practices in mind
Participate in on-call rotations and demonstrate proficiency to debug production issues, provide fixes and improve operational readiness
Other duties as assigned
What We’re Looking For:

10+ years of SaaS experience designing, building and operating distributed applications/services
Minimum bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
Demonstrated ability to act as the Technical Leader for multiple teams
Experience in multiple areas of our tech stack (Typescript, React, Python, AWS technologies, micro services, REST APIs, and relational databases)
An expert at engineering best practices, such as accessibility, fault tolerance, concurrency, reusability, extensibility, API design, database modeling, maintainability, security, scalability, testability, and overall quality
Strong knowledge of functional and object-oriented design and programming principles and patterns
Enthusiasm for the fast pace of a growing, changing startup environment
Ability to remain highly engaged and motivated while working with distributed, largely remote, teams
