Solution Architect Lead

The Information Technology department at OneAmerica is currently on a journey to transform our current capabilities to become digitally enabled organization. The Solution Architect Lead is responsible for leading the transformation of our application architecture into a cloud native, scalable, resilient and agile architecture by partnering with Enterprise Architecture and delivery partners. Typically works on large scale programs, mergers and acquisition level efforts, with primary responsibility for architecting and designing comprehensive business solutions following principles, policies and standards. Accountable for the work delivered by other Solution Architects when working on large programs.

Responsibilities include:
•Comprehends business strategies and market opportunities and develops necessary designs and plans to ensure the program and solutions satisfy those needs
•Defines reference architectures aligned with IT strategies and technology standards to be reused as Solution Building Blocks for the future
•Leads and facilitates technical analysis, solution design, and technology domain sessions to drive optimum IT solutions
•Architects and implements secure, scalable enterprise application solutions to be cloud optimized
•Works as hands on technical leader on the Solution Architecture team with a good understanding of cloud-native concepts and tradeoffs
•Collaborate with and leverage other IT specialists as required to support solution shaping and resolve issues. This includes heavy engagement with enterprise architects, program/portfolio managers, teams and senior Leadership
•Evaluating cloud technologies and services for fit and purpose of use in our application portfolio by evaluating Web and mobile application needs, cost, risk and ability to rearchitect existing solutions
•Defines reference architectures aligned with IT technology standards to be reused as Solution building blocks for the future
•Participates and partners with Enterprise Architects as a change agent to drive strategic IT architecture direction
•Exercises experience and influence to make well informed technology build vs buy, platform and integration decisions partnering with Enterprise Architecture
•Maintains awareness of IT strategic direction, EA strategies, emerging technologies, software trends, and tools
•Considers multiple, varied alternatives and recommends appropriate solutions based on cost/benefit analysis
•Partnership with Enterprise Architecture group and facilitates and supports execution of pilot and or proof of concept activities to validate technology capabilities
•Represent information following a defined design standard, using a combination of graphical and textual elements. Choose the appropriate type of model or architectural patter to solve specific problems
•Provides infrastructure capacity recommendations, IT ops support projections for new and containment applications and systems
•Mentor, coach and guide junior talent to help create a pool of technically strong subject matter experts and pipeline of Solution Architects
•Tracks and manages component interdependencies
•Assess and evaluate risks and provide risk mitigation recommendations

Required Qualifications:
•Bachelors’ degree in information technology, computer science, software engineering, or related fields OR any combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background
•Agile Certification
•10 or more years of Information Technology experience including 1 – 2 years of solution architecture experience
•Experience facilitating cross functional teams across the enterprise with a strong desire to train and assist others
•Comfort giving and receiving honest feedback with empathy
•Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities with ability to quickly understand and assess complex models and business processes when designing solutions
•Comfort working with incomplete information and seeks to explore, analyze and collect information to increase understanding of a topic or issue
•Ability to apply strategic thinking, engineering mindset and industry standard approaches when designing Customer-centric solutions
•Ability to serve as a change advocate, demonstrating agility and working with an iterative, performance driven, and continuous improvement mind set
•Creates relationships with new acquaintances quickly and confidently, works to build trust and partner with stakeholders, successfully manages both internal and external relationships (e.g., vendor relationships)
•Able to lead through influence in a matrix organization. Gain support for ideas and be able to drive consensus on technical challenges. Able to rally people/ teams to move towards a common goal
•Excellent interpersonal communication skills to explain complex technical topics in an easily digestible manner to technologist, leadership and business partners

Preferred Qualifications:
•Any technology or project management certification
•Any Cloud or Architecture certification
•Prior experience working as a Sr. Solution Architect
•Cloud native development and configuration management platforms (Chef, Puppet, Salt or Ansible)
