What You’ll Be Doing:

The Director of Carrier Sales has the primary responsibility for setting and driving the company’s overall strategic Carrier Sales vision, creating and implementing a comprehensive carrier procurement strategy, leading departmental organization and recruitment, nurturing carrier relationships, and ensuring continued growth and success in the department. This role requires a strong leadership presence and is expected to bring energy and motivation to the team. The Director of Carrier Sales is expected to be a role model for their department, providing clear objectives for success, exceptional communication, and superior critical thinking and work ethic.
The role will need to have a successful background in carrier sales and management and an ability to thrive in a fast pace environment. The ability to innovate strategic solutions and then successfully implement at a tactical level is essential to this position. This role will be expected to work closely with other department leaders and senior executives in the organization, in particular regarding new technology-driven offerings. Possessing a self-starter mentality, who is able to bring ownership and accountability to this role and department is vital to Spot achieving its goal of becoming a technological leader in the third-party logistics industry.
Responsible for creating and the execution of the organization’s future carrier sales and carrier relationship visions.
Oversee carrier sales processes, sales pipeline, and carrier retention for Spot Freight, providing direction and driving behavior to create success in the department.
Create and drive a company-wide carrier development plan that successfully allows the organization to meet its monthly, quarterly, and yearly goals and initiatives
Cultivate a high performing culture of excellence by building employee skills through coaching, mentoring, and ongoing training and development of the team and department.
Focus on complex sales and customer issues the company is experiencing, and provide results-oriented solutions to overcome these objections.
Attract, develop, and retain top talent in the logistics and transportation industries and in our current market.
Evaluate the current talent population, and provide a strategic plan to achieve success and alignment with current/future goals and initiatives.
Oversee Carrier Sales Managers and Carrier Reps.
Hold Carrier Sales Managers, Team Leads and Reps accountable for: Load coverage expectations, Call volumes and Carrier development targets.
Collaborate with all layers of the organization to gain insight towards developing the best experience that meets the needs of our employees, customers, and carriers.
Work with business leaders across the organization to build and develop the long and mid-term strategic plans to achieve business objectives.
Work collaboratively with leadership to create, and be responsible for achieving all sales and retention initiatives included in Spot’s strategic growth strategy.
Work in partnership with senior leaders of the company to develop a perspective on future organizational needs.
Develop and implement strategies for targeted and underperforming lanes

Our Ideal Candidate Is/Has:

Bachelor’s Degree in Sales, Business Management, Supply Chain/Logistics or related field.
Minimum of 8-10 years’ professional sales experience in the logistics or freight industry, 3rd party logistics experience preferred.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in people management, with proven success developing talent.
Expert-level analytical, organizational, and communication skills and the stamina to use them every day.
Experience in a fast-paced/startup environment, with a focus on bringing unique technology to the market is strongly desired.
Strong executive presence; able to influence and represent the needs of the business to multiple stakeholder groups at all levels; able to navigate complex and competing interest of multiple stakeholders.
Demonstrates a strong sense of urgency, problem solver who takes initiative.
Proven ability to succeed with minimal guidance, manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and take initiative under ambiguous circumstances.
Proven expertise in sales and business development.
Ability to facilitate and motivate teams to produce innovative logistics solutions that meet customer needs within tight time frames and contribute to building a positive work environment.
Comfortable working in a high volume, fast-paced, rapidly changing, results-oriented work environment.
Proficient computer skills with PC-based desktop applications, such as Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, MS Word, MS Excel), email, and web-based meeting and presentation applications, as well as CRM.
Ability to build a talent pipeline of sales talent; experience in attracting, hiring and management talent at different levels of experience (e.g. experienced hires, new college hires).
Occasional travel with overnight stays required.
