BCA Environmental Consultants Doubling Indianapolis Office Space and Adding Jobs
Environmental consultant chose to remain in Indiana rather than relocate to Tennessee
INDIANAPOLIS (February 5, 2025) — BCA Environmental Consultants, which works in more than 30 U.S. states as well as communities in Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico, today announced its decision to grow from Indiana rather than relocate out-of-state.
“State and local support made it a lot easier not to move,” said BCA Environmental Consultants President Joel Markland. “We’re very pleased to be able to stay here as we continue to expand from here.”
BCA Environmental Consultants helps communities and organizations deal with environmental regulations and compliance, as well as investigating contaminated properties. If remediation is needed, BCA Environmental Consultants designs and provides oversight of the corrective actions. The company, launched in 1987, also helps those organizations secure funding for remediation projects so contaminated sites can be investigated, remediated and redeveloped.
Markland said BCA Environmental Consultants teams work on 50 to 75 sites in Indiana each year. He estimates it has secured more than $10 million in federal grants to support environmental remediation in the past three years. The latest grant the company secured is for a $1.5 million project in suburban Nashville, Tenn. BCA Environmental Consultants is also working on the former Exide Battery facility cleanup project, which will enable the city of Logansport, Ind. to move its public works and utilities maintenance and administrative offices from the riverfront, freeing up that space for redevelopment.
BCA Environmental Consultants’ work requires it to employ Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematic (STEM) career professionals, a coveted demographic that Indiana policy makers, educators and community groups like TechPoint are actively courting.
“BCA Environmental Consultants’ hiring plans will help state and local efforts to attract and retain STEM career professionals,” said Jenny Massey, director of site selection and incentives at Sikich, which helped the company secure state incentives. “Additionally, the work they do is greatly beneficial to communities grappling with legacy contamination that impedes their ability to thrive economically.”
Based on the company’s plans to create 21 new jobs by the end of 2029, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) committed an investment in BCA Environmental Consultants of up to $300,000 in incentive-based tax credits. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning the company is eligible to claim incentives once Hoosiers are hired. The Indiana Department of Workforce Development assisted with a $2,400 Employer Training Grant.
“Indiana’s economy is built by entrepreneurs and small businesses like BCA Environmental Consultants,” said Ann Lathrop, chief strategy officer at the IEDC. “More than 99 percent of our state’s businesses are small, and we are proud to support their future growth and success. We look forward to BCA Consultants’ continued commitment to Indiana and to driving meaningful change across North America.”
Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett said he’s pleased to keep the company.
“Given all that BCA Environmental Consultants does for both our economy and our planet, we are proud to see this great work being done from their headquarters right here in Indianapolis,” he said. “This expansion also means the creation of new job opportunities in STEM, which has become a major sector of Indianapolis’s economy and will continue to play an important role in the years to come.”
BCA Environmental Consultants recently completed its move from 87th Street and Bash to space at 8604 Allisonville Road. The company has branches in Goshen, Ind. and Columbia, Tenn., as well as a sister organization, BCA Caribe, in Puerto Rico. Markland said he expects to have branch offices in up to eight more U.S. states in the near future.
