INDIANAPOLIS — Ahead of National Voter Registration Day on September 15, IN Tech for Progress today announced the return of Vote IN Time, a free tool that shows Hoosiers real-time wait times at polling locations during early voting and on Election Day. Formerly known as Indiana Vote Times, the app will be available statewide in all 92 Indiana counties for the first time, expanding from the five counties it served in 2024.

Vote IN Time loads directly in a phone’s web browser — no download, account, or sign-up required. Voters can find their nearest polling location and see an estimated wait time before they leave home, then anonymously report how long the line was to help the next voter in line. Wait time estimates are powered entirely by these anonymous, crowd-sourced check-ins from voters, while polling locations and hours are provided by county clerks’ offices.

“Most Hoosiers vote in person, and getting there takes planning — arranging transportation, work, or childcare around it,” the organization said. “With turnout expected to be high in 2026, lines may be long and hard to predict. Vote IN Time gives voters the same kind of real-time information they’d use to check how busy a restaurant is, so they can plan ahead and vote with confidence.”

“We built Vote IN Time because Hoosiers shouldn’t have to guess how long a line will be before they decide whether they have time to vote,” said Roger Deetz, Founder & CEO of IN Tech for Progress. “Expanding to all 92 counties means every Hoosier — not just those in a handful of counties — can use this tool to plan their trip to the polls this November.”

Vote IN Time will be live from October 6 through November 3, 2026, covering the full early in-person voting period and Election Day. The app is built and maintained entirely by volunteers from Indiana’s tech community and is not affiliated with any candidate, political party, or government agency. The 2026 rollout is supported by a grant from the Indianapolis Foundation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Vote IN Time?

Vote IN Time (formerly known as Indiana Vote Times) is a free online app that shows how long the current wait is at polling locations during the 2026 general election. It will be available between October 6 and November 3, 2026 during early in-person voting and on Election Day.

Why do we need this?

Most Hoosiers will need to cast their ballot in-person, either during early voting or on Election Day. While there are many available locations to cast your ballot, it still requires planning to get out to vote—especially if you need to arrange transportation, work, or childcare. We expect that turnout will be high in the 2026 election, and so lines might be long and the time it takes to vote could be unpredictable. Just like how you might check Google to see how busy a place typically is during the day, you can check wait times to find the shortest line before you get out to vote.

How does it work?

It is powered by voters, with a little bit of technology magic! While waiting in line to vote, voters can “check-in” via the app to report how long the lines are. It’s just two questions: “about how many people are in front of you?” and “about how many people are behind you?” With that information submitted from enough voters, our algorithms can estimate the current wait time for when a new person enters the line.

Does it collect data about me?

All check-in data is anonymous, and no personally identifiable information is collected by the app. You don’t need to have an account or provide any personal information to view the current wait times or to check-in. For full details, see our privacy policy.

Who is behind Vote IN Time?

Vote IN Time is a project of IN Tech for Progress. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, nonpartisan organization. We are not affiliated with any candidate, political party, or government agency. The app was designed and built entirely by Hoosier volunteers who are passionate about civic engagement and helping Hoosiers to participate in our democracy. IN Tech for Progress was founded in 2020 and partnered with other Indiana tech companies to develop “Indy Vote Times” and in 2024 has evolved the technology to be more scalable and available outside of Indianapolis. With support from the Indianapolis Foundation, we are excited to be able to bring it to all Hoosiers.
