In 2022, RxLightning took home the Mira Awards for Startup of the Year and Tech Product of the Year for its groundbreaking work in digitizing a paper-dominated process for patients to receive more than 1200 specialty medications, reducing wait times from weeks or months to days or even hours.

They didn’t dwell on the celebration. Instead, they launched the revolutionary MedAccess Ecosystem in November the same year, further expanding its solution for a decades-old problem. The eye-popping success of the platform earned RxLightning the 2023 Product Launch of the Year Mira Award.

The MedAccess Ecosystem is the first end-to-end digital platform to streamline the specialty medication process and establish interconnectivity between prescribers, specialty pharmacies, patients and everyone in the process. RxLightning founder, Julia Regan, calls the service “a CRM for specialty med access.”

RxLightning’s MedAccess Ecosystem is already being used by some of the world’s leading healthcare organizations to aid providers in helping patients get the potentially life-saving drugs they need faster.

Without the platform, access to specialty medications is typically measured in weeks or months. With the platform, 94.1% of patients are getting access in less than one hour, and 99.1% in less than one day.

The success of the launch is credited both to the astounding efficiency of the service and a marketing strategy to raise awareness among health systems across the country, pharma manufacturers, and specialty pharmacies. Market research showed there were no digital solutions addressing the fragmented patient experience and that paper, phone calls, FAX machines and Excel documents were the status quo to connect the multiple stakeholders across the journey.  The RxLightning team knew they could quickly create a significantly improved fully functioning digital platform for each stakeholder.

After alignment from their industry partners and within 60 days from ideation, Rxlightning had a production ready platform that connected the stakeholders across the specialty medication patient journey.

Amy Palmer, National Director, Biologics and Extracts for AllerVie Health, said her company’s experience with RxLightning has been “nothing short of incredible.”

“… We have transitioned away from broken processes and extended timelines for our complex allergy and asthma patients and are leveraging this new, digital platform, which has increased our speed to execution on our special pharmacy enrollments. I’m extremely optimistic about what the MedAccess Ecosystem can be, do and deliver. It’s powerful, and it’s going to make a difference in so many people’s lives – patients and providers alike,” she said.

Brad Fluegel, Principal at BMF Advisors and former senior vice president and chief strategy officer for Walgreens, said, the RxLightning solution addresses an error-prone system.

“The MedAccess Ecosystem says it all, it does it all, and it’s breaking all-new ground in the specialty pharmacy space,” he said.

The Mira Awards judges loved how the RxLightning team continues taking big swings at big, pervasive problems, and solving them.
