What’s Next for TechPoint’s Mira Awards? Scott Dorsey and Eric Christopher Think Big
Eric Christopher and Scott Dorsey are joining forces once again, but not to launch a startup or scale a software company.
After working together at ExactTarget and later at Zylo, the two Indiana tech leaders are turning their attention to something different: the future of the Mira Awards.
Christopher, who took over as TechPoint’s president and CEO earlier this year, tapped Dorsey to serve as Mira’s first honorary chair and help reimagine Indiana’s biggest night in tech.
It’s a natural fit for Dorsey. Since moving to Indiana more than 25 years ago, the High Alpha co-founder has attended nearly every Mira celebration.
“I love the Mira Awards,” Dorsey said. “It’s just an amazing way to showcase all of our incredible technology companies throughout the state and celebrate the richness and diversity of our tech ecosystem.”
Christopher and Dorsey recently sat down to talk about their vision for the 2027 Mira Awards, which returns April 23 at the soon-to-open Signia by Hilton Indianapolis.
Reimagining the Mira Award Experience
Christopher sees plenty of opportunity to build on Mira’s legacy and shape what comes next.
“How can we uplevel it?” Christopher said. “We want to dream a lot bigger.”
Dorsey brings a unique perspective to the effort. He’s watched Mira evolve from its early days into an event that brings together startups, universities, educators, major employers and tech leaders from across Indiana.
“It’s fun to see how it has gotten bigger and more inclusive, and perhaps even more impactful, as an event,” Dorsey said. “But I like reimagining what it might be as well. And I think there’s a lot of room for creativity, new ideas.”
Growing Indiana’s Tech Community
Dorsey knows a Mira Award can create momentum long after the winner leaves the stage.
He saw that firsthand at ExactTarget, where Mira recognition gave employees something to rally around and helped the company attract talent as it grew.
“It was amazing for recruiting,” Dorsey said. “It was really important to show that we were growing and winning and innovating, and a lot of talented people wanted to join our company. Having the Mira Award recognition was a big part of that.”
Christopher and Dorsey want Mira to shine a brighter spotlight on the people and companies building across Indiana, especially those flying under the radar.
“There are so many pockets of entrepreneurship that are just below the radar coming out of the universities, smaller towns all throughout Indiana,” Dorsey said. “The entrepreneurs and founders are busy building their companies, and they need our help to tell their story as well.”
They also want to widen the community Mira represents. Dorsey pointed to Indiana residents who work for companies headquartered out of state, including Google, Databricks and Microsoft.
“I want those individuals to feel a part of our tech community and share their stories and experiences and find ways to plug into Indiana,” he said.
Betting On Indiana Tech
Bringing more of Indiana’s tech community together is only part of the goal. Dorsey and Christopher also want Mira to build confidence in what Indiana can accomplish next.
Take AI, for example. Dorsey believes Indiana entrepreneurs can do more than adopt the technology.
“I’d like to prove that you can build breakout AI-native companies right here in Indiana,” Dorsey said. “We don’t have to give all that to the coasts.”
Christopher especially wants people who have never attended Mira, or haven’t attended in years, to experience what Indiana’s tech community looks like today.
“I think you’ll be surprised, motivated and excited about our potential,” Christopher said. “This is one amazing opportunity to see that and feel that.”
That sense of possibility is exactly what Dorsey hopes attendees will take away from the Mira Awards.
“The 2027 Mira Awards are the biggest night in tech because ambition is contagious, and everyone who attends is going to feel it in a big, big way,” he said.
