What led you to the tech industry and this occupation? What was your first job in tech?

My uncle was a programmer and he taught me to write code at a very young age. From seeing my first program run successfully, I was hooked. I love everything tech, from video games to the latest in computer and information systems. My first job was for a not-for-profit as a systems administrator.

When you think of a day in your life, what are the main work activities you do or responsibilities you have?

I primarily work on projects for Republic and LIFT Academy. My roles mostly entail working with internal stakeholders, gathering their requirements, and documenting their processes. I also run scrum teams for some of the projects I work on. Additionally, I work with vendors to deliver the intended project outcomes for our stakeholders.

Which resources would you recommend to those who want to learn more or advance their skills in this occupation?

In tech, the one thing that is constant is change, you have to keep up with the new tech as it’s introduced to the world. I subscribe to WIRED magazine and I follow a few tech leaders on social media. I also recommend professional memberships such as PMI. Lastly, networking is really important. I’ve learned so much from my peers in my network that it has become invaluable to my professional development.

Dean is a Tech 25 winner who is helping to grow and improve the tech landscape of Indiana. He was nominated by his Chief Information Officer, Nirav Shah.
