Finding top talent is hard. TechPoint is here to help. TechPoint’s Xtern program gives your company access to highly-skilled tech and business talent.

The Xtern program recruits students from 20+ campuses in the region and beyond to foster the next generation of tech builders. Students live on a campus together and share their experiences working for your company with their peers. Xtern is a built-in marketing opportunity to help get your brand name to current college students as they go back to school and rave about what they did for you. 

We take care of their after-hours, offer housing, and providing professional development, and civic engagement, social activities that create the best summer internship experience. 

If you are looking for a way to enhance your existing internship program and connect them to the broader Indiana community, in 2025 we are offering a new Programming option.

What are the benefits of being an Xtern employer?

Access to a curated, diverse, high-caliber talent pool of technical and business-skilled students from across the country. Matching and placement services to connect you to the right candidates based on your team’s needs. Full-service support for your interns outside of the 9a-5p including but not limited to housing arrangements, social opportunities, community service programs, and professional networking.

How are students evaluated and screened?

If you need assistance with recruitment, we receive over 2,600 applications. Our staff assess students based on their technical or business skills, campus/work involvement, and professional acumen. In order to be considered all applicants also complete a Work Sample Assessment that is inspired, guided, created, and critiqued by industry professionals in corresponding areas of tech-skilled and business-skilled roles. These submissions will be available for review as you preference your top candidates.

What is expected of my company?

Provide a fulfilling and meaningful internship for your Xtern

Student wages are responsibility of employers (negotiated independently) ranging of $15-$25/hr

Advocate for the advancement of Indiana digital innovation economy by mentorship

Require, support and compensate for the 3 dedicated programming Fridays (paid professional development)

TechPoint is dedicated to not only fostering the tech ecosystem, but in a greater sense we are dedicated to fostering inclusivity and equitable regional prosperity. These diversity goals were set utilizing historical program data and demographic participation in the current workforce in Indiana. We will continue to set ambitious goals as we seek for our tech community to be representative of our workforce. That is why we are sharing our diversity goals for our pool of applicants with an aim of over half of all applicants being persons of color, 7 percent being Latinx, 9 percent being African American, 3% being Multi-ethnic/Multi-racial, 5% being part of the LGBTQ+ community, and 35 percent identify as an underrepresented gender.

Xterns in the Business Communications job function may work on a variety of projects depending on their employer, such as marketing activities, sales and business development, CRM software management, and content creation.

Xterns in the Business Intelligence job function may work on a variety of projects depending on their employer, such as intensive and technical data analysis, running SQL queries, and data visualization.

Xterns in the Business Operations job function may work on a variety of projects depending on their employer, such as business process and systems, identifying areas of improvement and efficiency, managing projects and resources, data analysis and interpretation, and stakeholder management.

Xterns in the Cloud Technology job function may work on a variety of projects depending on their employer, such as cloud infrastructure components, architecting and deploying components, virtualization and containerization, and cloud security principles.

Xterns in the Cybersecurity job function may work on a variety of projects depending on their employer, such as information assurance, systems design, vulnerabilities management, and IT/Networking.

Xterns in the Data Science job function may work on a variety of projects depending on their employer, such as AI, machine learning, data analysis, and data wrangling.

Xterns in the Product Management job function may work on a variety of projects depending on their employer, such as user research, project management, comparative analysis, A/B testing, and product road mapping.

Xterns in the Software Development job function may work on a variety of projects depending on their employer, such as product, application, and web development, machine learning, and AI, and working with basic data structures and code structures.

Xterns in the UX UI job function may work on a variety of projects depending on their employer, such as user experience research and analysis, wireframing, visual designing and animation.

How it works

Employer Recruitment

TechPoint reaches out to companies to gauge interest and opportunity.

Company Commitment

The deadline to confirm your TechPoint Sourced Xtern (review from our Finalist Pool) is March 14.

Xtern Finalist Review

Companies review resumes, work sample assessments, and application information for all Xtern finalists to determine their lists of preferred candidates.

Interviews and Offers

Companies work with TechPoint to schedule interviews with Xtern Finalists. Companies send official offer letters with details about salary, start dates, and expectations to Xterns they selected to hire. Xterns review offers and accept or decline. Xterns must inform both companies and the TechPoint team.

Source Your Own Xtern

Companies can source their own Xtern and place them into the program. Deadline to commit is March 31.

Xterns Arrive

Xtern move-in begins Memorial Day weekend and Xterns will start work on Tuesday, May 27 and work for your company for the following 10 weeks, ending on Friday, Aug 1 and move-out is Saturday, Aug 2.
