Founded in 2013, Lafayette-based Tactile Engineering is a tech startup dedicated to improving education and opportunities for blind and visually impaired (B/VI) people. The company’s Cadence Tactile Graphics Tablet is a game-changing technology platform that enables B/VI users to access graphics, animated images, real-time data output, video games, drawing tools, and more. The platform is a new medium of expression for third-party software developers, artists, authors, and content providers. Tactile Engineering assembles the Cadence tablet at its facility in Lafayette, using components and materials primarily sourced from Indiana manufacturers and suppliers. The company is led by Dave Schleppenbach, a lifelong advocate of equity and inclusion for people with disabilities and a serial entrepreneur who built several successful assistive technology and disabilities services companies.
