Startups can apply by Sept. 13 to receive the discounted early entry rate

INDIANAPOLIS — Applications are open for the 19th annual SXSW Pitch competition, which will bring startups from around the world to Austin, Texas, March 16-17, 2027.

SXSW Pitch gives emerging companies an opportunity to present their technologies to investors, industry experts, early adopters, media professionals and business leaders. Selected finalists receive international exposure, feedback from experienced judges and opportunities to connect with potential investors and strategic partners.

The 2027 competition includes eight categories:

  • Emerging & Frontier Technologies
  • Entertainment, Media, Sports & Digital Platforms
  • Life Sciences, Healthcare & AssistiveTech
  • Mobility, Manufacturing & Industrial Systems
  • SaaS, Enterprise & Developer Platforms
  • Smart Data, Security & FinTech
  • Student Startups
  • Sustainability, Energy & AgTech

Since 2009, 732 companies have participated in SXSW Pitch. More than 80% have secured funding, collectively generating more than $22 billion in venture capital and exits. Past participants include Siri, ICON, Klout, Hipmunk and Wildfire, as well as other companies that have secured significant funding, completed acquisitions and gained international recognition.

Eligibility

Companies applying for the 2027 competition must meet eligibility requirements that include:

  • The submitted product or service must not have launched before Jan. 1, 2024.
  • The company must not have raised more than $10 million from combined funding sources.
  • Founders must retain an ownership interest in the company.
  • The company may submit only one product or service.
  • The company must be legally registered and comply with applicable regulations.
  • The product or service must fit within one of the eight competition categories.

Student startups may apply across all competition categories. At least one student member of the founding or executive team must present if the company is selected as a finalist or alternate. The presenter must be enrolled in high school, college or university at the time of the competition.

Application dates and fees

The early application period runs through Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026, with a discounted application fee of $105.

The regular application period will run from Sept. 14 through Nov. 13, 2026, with an application fee of $225. All applications must be submitted by Nov. 13.

Application fees are nonrefundable and support the review and evaluation of submissions. Submitting an application does not guarantee selection as a finalist.

SXSW Pitch will take place from 10 am to 5 pm March 16-17 at the Hilton Austin, 535 E. Fifth St., in Austin.

Indiana entrepreneurs and organizations that support promising startups are encouraged to share the opportunity with companies developing innovative technologies and seeking national and international exposure.
