Franklin College Launches Cutting-Edge Cybersecurity Major
FRANKLIN, Ind. – Franklin College announced the launch of a new Bachelor of Arts in Cybersecurity degree program, beginning spring semester of 2026. The new major is designed to equip students with the skills needed to thrive in one of today’s fastest-growing career fields. Offered through the Department of Mathematics and Computing, the program provides a direct pathway into the critical and high-demand world of information systems security.
The need for trained cybersecurity professionals continues to rise sharply as cyber threats become more frequent and sophisticated, and as organizations across all industries grow increasingly reliant on digital systems. A global shortage of cybersecurity talent is already impacting the ability of businesses and institutions to protect vital information and infrastructure, and projections indicate the gap will only widen in the years ahead.

There are today over 600,000 unfilled cybersecurity positions in the United States. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, “Employment of information security analysts is projected to grow 33 percent from 2023 to 2033, much faster than the average for all occupations. About 17,300 openings for information security analysts are projected each year, on average, over the decade.”
Developed in partnership with Rize Education, the new program reflects Franklin College’s commitment to preparing students for success in the modern workforce. By aligning its curriculum with current industry needs, the College ensures its graduates are professionally competitive and career ready.
“This program is a testament to our commitment to offering students pathways into emerging and essential career fields, while continuing to emphasize the enduring value of a liberal arts education,” said Kristin Flora, Ph.D., vice president and dean of the college. “It also strengthens our broader focus on digital fluency — a cornerstone of the Franklin College experience.”
Flora noted the cybersecurity major is closely integrated with the College’s digital fluency initiative, giving students hands-on practice with real tools and practices used by professionals in the field.
