Job Description

The Director, IT Infrastructure is responsible for all enterprise infrastructure technology roadmaps, architecture, security, vendor management, and operations across the organization. This position will lead, plan, direct, and coordinate the design, installation, connectivity and capacity planning of computer systems, network infrastructure and support desk teams to ensure the stable operation of the organization’s IT assets. This includes developing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all new and existing software, WAN/LAN hardware, server infrastructure, virtualization, compute, storage, data center, and communication links. Responsible for high availability, disaster recovery, and secure operation plans across the enterprise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the infrastructure of the enterprise and ensure its proper operation
  • Oversee IT infrastructure team with focus on continual skills development and quality of work performed, conduct regular performance reviews and corrective action as necessary
  • Management of backup and disaster recovery strategies
  • Develop a comprehensive security program that defines, develops, maintains, and implements policies, procedures, and infrastructure designs that ensure the integrity and privacy of the organization
  • Management of vendors providing IT services
  • Consult with operational management teams to understand business needs and strategies to translate into technology plans and recommendations
  • Review and assess any projects, procedures, or policies to ensure that they’re in alignment with overall strategies and standards
  • Develop road maps with focus on capacity planning, end-user productivity, cost efficiency, emerging technologies, and technology lifecycles
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for infrastructure resource administration and appropriate use.
  • Practice infrastructure asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory, life cycle management and related documentation.
  • Establish service level agreements with end-users.
  • Provides ownership of escalated problems through final resolution.
  • Prepare RFPs, bid proposals, contracts, scope of work reports, and other documentation for IT projects and associated efforts.
  • Assessment and mitigation of cyber and infrastructure risks in-line with market trends.
  • Perform cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions.
  • Assess vendors for pricing and performance to ensure the best services and value is delivered
  • Assess, approve, and administer all equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
  • Manage and ensure effectiveness of servers, including e-mail, print, and backup servers, and their associated operating systems and software. Responsible for on-site and off-site data centers.
  • Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the organization’s executives, decision-makers, stakeholders, department heads, and end users regarding pertinent network activities.
  • Manage operational costs; conduct near- and long-term financial forecasts for expanded functionality/user base.
  • Performs hands on service deployment, administration, and break fix actions across the infrastructure
  • Leads response to infrastructure security breaches, hardware and network failures impacting business operations

Managerial Responsibility

  • This position has direct reports.
  • Responsible for managing employees and vendors providing desktop support, network administration and infrastructure operations.
  • Developing and managing departmental budget.
  • Providing executive updates on projects, issues and plans.
  • Develop and /or maintain metrics related to uptime %, failures, response time, infrastructure speed and performance, costs and service levels.
  • Develop and execute personal development plans for direct report employees.
  • Lead the infrastructure component of systems development and enhancements.
