About the Role

We’re hiring a Founding Software Engineer to help complete our current build and prepare for the next stage – where speed, craft, and thoughtful execution meet. You’ll help drive the product through testing, strengthen the technical foundation, and set the pace for what comes next.

Depending on fit, this position could evolve into a technical leadership or CTO-track role as we expand post-launch. You’ll work closely with the founder and design partners to shape both the product architecture and the engineering culture from the ground up.

• Commitment: Contract-to-hire; may begin part-time (20-30 hrs/week for 8-12 weeks) or immediately full-time if mutually aligned. 
• Location: Indianapolis-based or remote/hybrid. 
• Compensation: Contract rate or modest base + meaningful early equity (approx. 1-3%, depending on fit and phase).

• Collaborate across design and AI teams to evolve architecture for scalability and long-term adaptability. 
• Lead with clarity-turning ambiguity into structure and decisions that keep momentum high. 
• Balance speed with precision: ship fast, test thoroughly, and sustain product quality under pressure. 
• Establish engineering standards around integrity, reliability, and performance. 
• Help define Balance’s long-term technical direction and drive key product milestones.

• Experienced across backend and frontend using modern frameworks (TypeScript, React, Node, Postgres, or equivalents).
