Event Description

The Consortium for Computing Sciences and Colleges (CCSC) is a non-profit organization focused on promoting quality computer-oriented curricula as well as effective use of computing in smaller institutions of higher learning which are typically non-research in orientation. It supports activities which assist faculty in making appropriate judgments concerning computing resources and educational applications of computer technology.

Because departments in smaller colleges and universities are usually small and not highly specialized, the Consortium also encourages the sharing of expertise, effective curricula and efficient technological applications.

The Consortium is concerned with the advancement of major programs in both Computer Science and Computer Information Systems, and with the use of computers in the Liberal Arts and Sciences.

The Midwest Region is one of 10 regions of the CCSC. The Midwest Region consists primarily of Eastern Illinois, Southern Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Western Pennsylvania, and Northern Kentucky, but we welcome participants from everywhere. Details on how the Midwest Region is governed are provided in our By-Laws. We are represented on the CCSC Board by a Regional Representative.

Our main event is the annual CCSC:MW Conference held each Fall. The conference program reflects the Consortium’s goals and accommodates the limited resources for travel associated with member institutions. A fun time is had by all during two days of refereed papers, invited speakers, tutorials, panels, workshops, and discussions on computing science education issues for smaller colleges and departments.

We are an all-volunteer organization and are always looking for new people to join the conference committee or host a conference.

Emily Kitterman, Senior Manager of Careers in Tech, has been invited to speak and represent TechPoint on Friday October 20th, 2023 during dinner.
Talk Title: Opportunities for Talent in Indiana's Digital Innovation Economy: A Careers in Tech Presentation

Description/Abstract: TechPoint is the industry-led growth initiative working to inclusively grow Indiana’s digital innovation economy and overall tech ecosystem. Housed as an initiative of the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership, TechPoint is uniquely positioned as a catalytic convener of key stakeholders from across the Hoosier state in academics, industry, community organizations, and government. Together, we aim to achieve our mission by expanding the digital skill talent pipeline, enhance connectivity through storytelling, and elevate industry success and innovation. In order to expand Indiana's talent pipeline, TechPoint offers various programs, beginning with our Careers in Tech web platform. Careers in Tech outlines and demystifies Indiana’s tech landscape using local data from industry partners and highlights areas for opportunity for employment seekers. With careers outlined into specific roles and possible pathways, we break down the skills needed, both technical and foundational; the necessary training and experience based on your point of entry and desired job moves; salary expectations; and highlight stand-out professionals currently in the given field. Careers in Tech is more than just an information resource, it is also a marketplace of the variety of education and training programs available to Hoosiers, including some free virtual learning experiences to try on different roles. Altogether, Careers in Tech serves as the doorway for prospective talent for Indiana's growing digital innovation economy.
