Indiana Youth Apprenticeship Community of Practice Summer Convening

Hosted by Ascend Indiana

Event Description

Indiana is prioritizing work-based learning for high school students as demonstrated by major legislation in the 2023 session and ongoing efforts across our state’s agencies to advance opportunity for youth. These opportunities enable our Hoosier youth to gain real-life experiences where they can apply their academic learning to on-the-job training. This work, however, cannot be done without our education partners to implement these experiences that support youth.

We invite you to join us on Wednesday, May 31st at Ivy Tech Community College in Bloomington to hear from education leaders and participate in discussions that will further your understanding of the power of work-based learning, including youth apprenticeships. These discussions will elevate practitioners who are leading forward implementation of work-based learning efforts across their regions, and how they work with local partners to provide these important experiences for students. We will also hear from the Indiana Department of Education on important legislation passed in the 2023 legislative session and how your school can leverage new guidance and resources to implement work-based learning for your students. Dr. Katie Jenner, Indiana's Secretary of Education, will serve as our keynote speaker.

Whether you have been engaged in this work, or are simply inquiring, we hope you will join us in discussions on how we can advance work-based learning across our state with educators in the driver’s seat, and the resources made available to ensure success. Discover how you can play a role in paving the way for students to have access to these robust on-the-job experiences that expand their options upon graduation.
