Most startups owned by women work with contractors (1099s) and interns for years - yes years. (That's because men are funded faster and can hire full time employees [FTEs] sooner.) Whether revenue increases or investment has been secured, there is an inflection point that allows the founder to hire FTEs. There is both a strategy and art to finding the talent that will help your company scale. These first hires will set the tone for the company culture, move responsibilities off the founder's plate, and sell the product or service that will lead to revenue generation, profitability, and future rounds of follow on funding.
