Lack of training is one of the main barriers to quality within an organization. Since winning the Mira Award for Tech Startup of the Year in 2015, Lesson.ly has worked tirelessly to combat this problem and change the mold for the way companies organize and track their training materials.

“Winning the Mira Award felt like a challenge. It put us into, ‘Now we have to earn this’ mode,” Max Yoder, Founder and CEO, said.

“We are thankful for the local attention we received from the award and we proudly display the award in our office.”

We asked Max about the progress of Lesson.ly and what is up next for the company in the coming future. His answers are included below.

How has your company grown since winning a Mira Award?

We started 2015 with a seven-person team. That team grew to 18 over the course of the year, and it has already reached 30 in 2016. We’ve doubled our office space in Vonnegut School #9, and we’ve quintupled our revenues.

What is the biggest lesson starting a business has taught you?

Technology comes second; people come first.

What is the next step for your company?

We are marching toward one million learners. Our next step is always the same, and we phrase it in the form of a question: what is the next best thing we do for the hundreds of thousands of learners who count on Lesson.ly?

What hopes do you have for the future of the tech community as a whole?

The Indy tech scene is just getting started. With organizations like High Alpha, Allos Ventures, and the Orr Fellowship, there are so many assets focused on helping individuals and companies succeed. We are thankful to be a part of each of these organizations, and we work hard to add value to them and the city by creating a company that provides undeniable value to its employees, clients, and community.

What advice do you have for the next winner of this award or someone trying to break into the tech field?

Whether you are winning awards or not, we think the formula is simple: help people, practice humility, and employ a healthy but hard work ethic.
