REVEAL: University Technologies event highlights powerful startup pipelines

On the eve of Innovation Showcase, Indy's premier event for fundable companies and capital, a new pre-party event called REVEAL: University Technologies celebrated the best startup technologies and investment opportunities coming out of three of Indiana's most prolific research and development institutions — Indiana University, Purdue University and Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division.

Frankly, the reps from all three organizations and the hosts at Faegre Baker Daniels did something very right last night. They took about 15 minutes to welcome the packed room, read through the list of 28 startups represented and had each startup team raise their hands so that we knew who belonged to which startups. Hint for anybody planning a startup mixer, this is as complex as it needs to get. You don't have to be fancy, just get entrepreneurs and investors in the same place at the same time and get out of the way.

Purdue announced this morning that the university had record-breaking numbers in commercialization activities for its fiscal year with 24 startups based on Purdue intellectual property, tripling the previous year's number.
