CreateIT Healthcare Solutions has won top honors from the second annual Hoosier Healthcare Innovation Challenge. The CreateIT mobile application fights to reduce the high infant mortality rate in Indiana by pushing educational materials to expectant mothers where they live.

According to Census Bureau data, even among mothers living in poverty, 80.9 percent of households have a mobile phone, which is why CreateIT delivers information via mobile application, SMS text messaging, email, or automated voice calling.

Here is a sampling of the type of information that is delivered to expectant mothers:
  • Educational articles and videos
  • Baby status messages
  • Community events and classes available in the mothers area
  • Links and information about State resources such as WIC and Medicaid
  • Two-way communication with the mothers healthcare provider
  • Information about free services provided by not-for-profit organizations

The pregnancy application challenge, presented by the Indiana State Department of Health, called for a technology-driven solution to provide important educational information on state programs available to expectant mothers and allow two-way communication between healthcare facilities and patients. The solution developed by CreateIT also uses a real-time translation system that will ensure that content delivered to expectant mothers is delivered in their native language.

The Hoosier Healthcare Innovation Challenge is proving to be an excellent platform for bringing together tech developers and healthcare clinicians to solve problems and improve patient care. Last year's winner, Diagnotes, is growing rapidly and recently closed on $1 million in Series A funding from life sciences and early-stage growth company investors. The investment group was led by the Innovate Indiana Fund and includes the Indiana Seed Fund II, Stepstone Angels and other investors. Diagnotes is a comprehensive communication system for on-call healthcare providers that allows clinicians and patients to connect with on-call providers while simultaneously delivering key patient information from the EHR to the point of care.

HOOSIER HEALTHCARE INNOVATION CHALLENGE ANNOUNCES 2013 WINNER

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (November 12, 2013) – The Indy Chamber announced today that CreateIT Healthcare Solutions has received the Top Innovation of the Year Award for the second annual Hoosier Healthcare Innovation Challenge (HHIC).

The HHIC is a statewide competition that gives technology professionals the opportunity to solve some of the largest challenges facing healthcare, develop solutions in a collaborative environment, and launch new startup ventures. This year, CreateIT answered the call for a solution to help reduce the State's persistently high rate of infant mortality.

"The HHIC process is an amazing platform for launching a product and/or new company immediately onto the software stage," said Jonathan Meade, President and Co-Founder of CreateIT. "The process of placing software developers and problem solvers right beside the people issuing the challenges with real-world problems that need to be solved is a wonderful opportunity."  CONTINUE READING
