Cross-sector collaboration results in solutions to resolve health IT challenges
Freedom Solutions, Diagnotes, and CreateIT are the top three finalists in the first-ever Hoosier Healthcare Innovation Challenge. The three organizations submitted solution proposals to address three information technology challenges that were first revealed at the Hoosier Healthcare Innovation Challenge event held on July 13.
The HHIC, sponsored by Develop Indy, Ice Miller LLP, and TechPoint, convened some of the most innovative leaders in Indiana's healthcare and technology communities in a collaborative way to help solve some of health IT's most challenging problems. Three IT challenges from three different hospital systems were presented and discussed. More than 200 doctors, IT developers, and entrepreneurs from across the state participated in the inaugural event, with more than 20 IT teams submitting solution proposals for consideration.
"We were extremely impressed with the quality of the solution submissions from technology leaders across the state," said Dr. Alan Snell, chief medical informatics officer for St. Vincent Health. "It is this level of talent and cross-sector collaboration that will lay the foundation for the next generation of Indiana's great health care innovators."
The three winning solution proposals were submitted by:
-
Freedom Solutions, a Division of Freedom Staffing ― www.freedomstaffing.us ― Freedom Solutions is an IT firm from Indianapolis that provides software solutions in the healthcare, government, and finance sectors. Freedom partnered with Cetani (www.cetani.com), an Indiana-based software company, to develop this solution.
-
Diagnotes ― www.diagnotes.net ― A small IT firm from Indianapolis, Diagnotes provides software solutions to enhance communication and information in the healthcare sector.
- CreateIT, Inc. ― www.createit-inc.com ― CreateIT, from Richmond, Indiana, is a start-up software development firm that provides software solutions for the healthcare industry.
For submitting the top three solutions, Freedom Solutions, Diagnotes and CreateIT will each be awarded a cash prize of $2,500 and receive access to in-kind services that includes assistance in legal, regulatory, financial, and product development to help execute their concepts. Teams from the three organizations will also have the opportunity to present their solutions at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Fall Conference on November 6. Attendees will vote on the top solution, and the winning organization will receive a cash prize of $5,000.
"This experience for our team was really invaluable," said Shannon Morris with Freedom Solutions, one of the three finalists. "Having face-to-face discussions with Indiana's top clinicians about some of the biggest challenges in healthcare today gave our team tremendous insight and opened our eyes to the opportunities that exist within health IT. Ultimately, we feel this will help lead us to grow and be successful."
