As founder and CEO of ActiveCampaign, my favorite part of growing the customer experience automation (CXA) category is watching the impact that it has on growing businesses and community. I’m thrilled to share that ActiveCampaign has crossed 145,000 customers in 170 countries, and has raised a $240M Series C funding round to continue accelerating the CXA category.

Since the beginning of 2020, ActiveCampaign has made a number of advancements:

  • Hired 300 new team members, with plans to reach 1,000 employees within the year, and double the team in Indianapolis by end of next year
  • Launched a new hubs model that includes remote employees along with hub offices in Indianapolis, Chicago, Dublin, and Sydney
  • Announced new product functionality, including pages and web personalization, along with major marketing, ecommerce, and sales automation enhancements
  • Expanded the app ecosystem to over 850 — including integrations with Facebook, Microsoft, Twilio, and Zendesk — adding to already powerful integrations like Salesforce, Google, and Shopify — so businesses can connect the tools they want to use
  • Doubled the number of pre-built automation recipes to over 540 and added 150+ new email templates, making it easier than ever to start automating personalized messages
  • Launched an industry-first, 17-promise Customer Success Commitment to guarantee the trust, value, and service we provide for our customers

As a result of these advances, and many others, ActiveCampaign has reached record usage levels, powering 4 billion weekly automated experiences. We’ve added over 55,000 customers since the beginning of 2020, and now have over 850 people on the team.

ActiveCampaign currently has a 40+ person team in Indianapolis, and plans to double that team in the next 18 months. ActiveCampaign’s product team, led by CTO Tony Newcome, is based in Indianapolis, and we’ve been fortunate to work with some of the top talent in the Indy area.

Our current ActiveCampaign employees in Indianapolis are in the product, people, development, and design teams. We have openings from entry to executive level, including in marketing, sales, customer success, and other departments — and as part of our growth, we plan to open a new 10,000 square foot office in downtown Indianapolis.

We hope that the new Indy office will be a hub for ActiveCampaign employees and the entire tech and business community in Indianapolis.

How ActiveCampaign will advance customer experience automation

The mission that drives us at ActiveCampaign is to help growing businesses, of any size, build more meaningful connections with their customers.

As technology has developed and customer expectations have gone up, it isn’t enough for businesses to send generic messages to their customers. Customers expect to get communication in every channel — whether that means email, text, social media, or a business’ website — and businesses that can’t deliver personal messages across every stage of a customer lifecycle will stop growing and start to feel left behind.

One of the hardest parts about growing a business, and something I learned as ActiveCampaign has grown from 15 people to over 850 in the last five years, is that scaling personal touch is hard. As a business grows, more things to do, more people to serve, and without strong systems in place, repetitive work steals the time needed to add an extra human touch.

CXA is about building personal relationships, whether a business has 10 customers or 10 million. At ActiveCampaign, we use the ActiveCampaign product to create those relationships across channels, and successful customers like Koia, Museum of Science and Industry Chicago, and Hipcooks see success because they’re able to bring a personal touch to every stage of the customer lifecycle.

Moving forward, ActiveCampaign will continue to expand internationally, add new product functionality, strengthen the core of the product, build an expanded partner ecosystem, and grow our world-class customer success team. We are thrilled to be part of the Indy tech community.
