Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Mike Meadows Joins TechPoint Board of Directors
TechPoint, Indiana’s technology growth initiative, announced today that Eli Lilly and Company has invested in the nonprofit economic development organization, joining its Pillar Partner donors who contribute $25,000 or more annually. Lilly is one of the largest employers of highly skilled computer-related workers in the state with over 800 Information Technology professionals.
Software executive and entrepreneur Mike Langellier was named president and CEO 16 months ago, and since then TechPoint has doubled its efforts on growing tech companies and strengthening the tech ecosystem in Indiana. Langellier orchestrated a shift from being primarily event-based, to launching multiple new TechPoint initiatives addressing critical needs like attracting and retaining tech talent, infusing key resources like capital into startup companies, and connecting and promoting the tech community.
“Top tech talent is critical for Lilly as information technology continues to broaden its impact and influence across the entirety of our business process life cycle,” said Mike Meadows, vice president and chief technology officer, Eli Lilly and Company. “The creative and effective work TechPoint is doing with the IndyX Initiative, attracting and retaining tech talent, is a significant step in the right direction for employers and the community, so Lilly is proud to step forward with financial and leadership assistance.”
Meadows has also joined the TechPoint Board of Directors. TechPoint Chairman Mark Hill said Meadows is the first director representing tech-enabled companies with high-concentrations of tech employees whose primary business is outside of what is thought of as the traditional tech or IT sector.
“Technology is so pervasive that even one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies is also a tech company,” Hill said. “Incorporating the global IT perspective of Mike Meadows among TechPoint‘s board is an important move that recognizes the impact of tech on all businesses, and we are very much looking forward to the infusion of experience and passion for tech in Indiana that Mike brings with him.”
Late last year, TechPoint launched the pilot for its new initiative focused on attracting, retaining and developing tech company talent called IndyX. Comprised of a one-of-a-kind summer internship experience (IndyXtern) and a special program for attracting expats and out-of-towners to the local tech community, companies and jobs (IndyXpat), IndyX complements the Orr Fellowship, an affiliated program for new grads which recruits and grooms the next generation of Indiana business leaders and entrepreneurs.
In addition to IndyX, TechPoint also manages the HALO Investors group, which has invested more than $20 million into startups. It also connects the industry together through techpoint.org, social media, media relations, and approximately 50 events annually. Lastly, TechPoint catalyzes industry micro-clusters like marketing technology and health IT.
As Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Meadows leads the Global Information Services organization at Lilly responsible for business technology direction and delivering IT infrastructure and enterprise application services to over 50,000 employees and collaborators globally. He has overseen an enterprise-wide strategic sourcing initiative to consolidate and transform infrastructure and IT delivery processes to globally-managed external service providers, has contributed to the redesign of the IT organization from a federated to centralized model with the outcome of substantially reducing Lilly IT spend, and is modernizing the IT infrastructure in support of mobility and new cloud based computing paradigms. Mr. Meadows also has led improvement initiatives in other areas of global responsibility including project management, vendor management, and quality processes for IT.
Prior to his current position, Meadows led the final stages of Lilly’s ERP program, at the time considered to be one of industry’s largest single-instance SAP implementations. The initiative included defining and installing global common business processes in finance, human resources, manufacturing, distribution, and project tracking.
With more than 30 years of IT experience, Meadows has also held positions of CIO for Lilly Diabetes, Program Manager, Financial Analyst, Systems Analyst, and Network Analyst. He is experienced in pharmaceutical and medical device businesses.
Meadows also serves on the Board of Directors of Providence Cristo Rey High School as chair of the technology committee. He is married with 3 sons and resides in Indianapolis. He holds a B.A. in Mathematics and Computer Science from Hanover College and an M.B.A. in Finance from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.
