What led you to get into tech and this occupation? What was your first job in tech?
I would not have ended up in tech if it weren’t for the amazing alumni network at Anderson University. I was selected for a public relations internship at Formstack during my senior year, after previously working with an employee on campus at AU. The internship turned into an entry-level role, which evolved to a team lead position in content marketing. I developed career-long mentors during my four-year tenure at Formstack: Chris Byers (CEO), Ade Olonoh (Founder), Chris Lucas, Ashley Walsh, Mallory Lee, and several other connections that I don’t have the space to list!
When you think of a day in your life, what are the main work activities you do or responsibilities you have?
My team at PFL is responsible for planning, executing, and measuring the success of marketing programs that span the entire customer journey. From top of funnel account-based marketing programs to customer retention and events/webinars, I am proud to manage a team that engages with every area of the business. Our mission is to build a scalable revenue machine full of informed and empowered team members who incorporate customer-first buying experiences, create efficiency and alignment with external teams, and crush goals all while having a lot of fun. Needless to say, no two days are the same.
Which resources, people, books, websites, etc. would you recommend to those who want to learn more or advance their skills in this occupation?
As a developing leader myself, I am an avid fan of Brene Brown, as well as the Manager Tools podcast series. I work at an organization that markets to marketers, so I am constantly needing to fine-tune my own skills in marketing to stay ahead of the curve. I am lucky to learn alongside our partners in the martech space, such as Terminus, Salesforce, Oracle, and Demandbase. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Agile Marketing Indy, the learning community I founded with fellow Tech 25 alum Muhammad Yasin. Our mission is to inspire new ways of getting stuff done, and we accomplish that through our Slack community and the Agile Marketing Podcast.
