Two different teams of Xterns, summer interns in TechPoint’s ultimate tech internship experience, took home top honors in the Indy Civic Hack — a competition using large public data sets to solve challenges for the city. This year, the hackathon focused on transit issues and the winners were announced at the brand new IndyGo Julia Carson Transit Center in downtown Indianapolis.

Xterns Denver Huynh, Derek Schrag, and Vincent Chang developed an app that allows users to create travel routes using both the IndyGo bus service and Indiana Pacers Bikeshare service on a single platform. The real-time app simplifies the process of locating transportation options and attracting users to both services to find the best way to get around the city.  

Xterns Marwan Nakhaleh, Brandon Moore, and Jon Arnett developed a mapping tool using mass transit, crime rates and public infrastructure data to plot out where assaults had happened. The group anticipated the visual representation of the data would help users draw correlations and to make smart and informed decisions when traveling around Indy.

TechPoint talent program participants were also a part of the winning team in the innovator category that was announced at the end of the hackathon earlier this month.
