Fellow Your Dreams: IndyX Tech Fellowship Launches

TechPoint’s IndyX Tech Fellowship program has officially kicked off its inaugural year and the community-minded tech builders chosen to participate this first year are beginning their promising careers at employers around the Indianapolis metro.

The Tech Fellowship is a two-year launchpad for new grads, crafted to place developers, designers, and product managers with leading companies where they can hone their skills, fast-track their careers, and impact our community.

We had an opportunity to briefly interview three Tech Fellows during their daylong on-boarding/orientation at The Iron Yard, so we asked them what they were most looking forward to over the next two years.

What are you most looking forward to the fellowship providing you?

Nathan Nieman: Today we just had our launch event, so there are a ton of great programs that I’m looking forward to experiencing — some really great professional development and some really great skills training. The Tech Fellowship is just a terrific group of peers, which I know will be inspiring throughout the first couple years of my employment.

Alexis Fink: I am really looking forward to working with others and helping introduce them to rising tech companies.

Alex Correa: I have to say what I’m looking forward to all the opportunities to meet up with leaders in the community and the people who can make a difference. I want to be able to leave this fellowship knowing that I have the tools, the resources, and the knowledge to solve problems. I want to help people. I want to do something that is going to make life easier for the people who live in the city because I love it.

What’s your favorite thing about Indianapolis?

Nathan: I really like the Midwestern values and Midwestern hospitality that Indy offers.

Alexis: I really like the Indy culture, and while it’s a growing city, it’s still connected to its roots.

Alex: You’ve got this sense of community, where all of these people around you are unique and different and they’ve all got different opinions and views and backgrounds, but you’re all united in the idea that you’re trying to make a better community for everybody.

What do you personally want to provide to the Indy community?

Nathan: I really feel a strong value of giving back to the community. So whatever form that might be, whether it’s helping kids or working on some of the bigger challenges Indy is facing, I’m excited to get involved in any way that I can.

Alexis: I realized I was exposed to computer science at a young age and I really want to help introduce young kids to coding and to see their eyes light up knowing that they created something.

Alex: I want to provide answers and solutions, but more than anything I think I want to help the community by working to enrich the people themselves and connecting them to one another.

The Tech Fellowship on-boarding orientation also included some hilarious group improvisational acting, facilitated by IndyProv. The session was a great ice-breaker that really got the Fellows to stretch out of their comfort zones and bond with their co-fellows.
