What led you to the tech industry and this occupation? What was your first job in tech?

The tech industry is innovative and always changing. I love that aspect because, as a creative, the opportunities within the world of technology are endless. I’m thankful that Jobvite was my first job within tech because of the growth mindset we follow. There is always room for growth, and innovative ideas are welcomed with open arms.

When you think of a day in your life, what are the main work activities you do or responsibilities you have?

As a recruiter, my responsibilities include sourcing, interviewing, and coordinating the interview process for candidates. Additionally, as the product and engineering recruiter, I partner with the managers and hiring teams to meet weekly and discuss the status of candidates in the process and new strategies to build the talent pipeline. My responsibilities may also include collaboration with the recruiting team to discuss updates, new initiatives, and internal processes.

What resources would you recommend to those who want to learn more or advance their skills in this occupation?

For those that would like to advance their skills and gain knowledge, the first thing I’d recommend is to build your network. This can be achieved by attending networking events within the field and simply reaching out to other professionals to learn more about the industry.

Networking meetings and informational interviews are the best way to get to know different career paths because everyone’s path is different and unique. You can always learn from someone else, and networking can take you very far within your professional career.

Jaylan Fisher is a Tech 25 winner who is helping to grow and improve the tech landscape of Indiana. She was nominated by her Sr. VP of Talent, Kelly Lavin.
